The book has been modularised quite well to allow for separation of learning outcomes.
For example, a reader already familiar with how to install nginx can confidently skip chapter 1 and jump right into the meat of configuring the server.

Even for people extremely familiar with nginx, you will find this book extremely helpful as a reference for neat tips to optimise your server for best performance. (check out Chapter 8: Introducing Load Balancing and Optimization)

Best of all, unlike a lot of technical books i find myself reading, this book was quite easy to read, a lot of books in this domain tend to be far too dense and end up disengaging the reader

Informative and Readable

There a quite a few books out on Nginx which reflects on the popularity of this web server. I figured any book making it to a 3rd edition had to be good and I was not disappointed. The material is well organized which allows the reader the opportunity to read the information in whatever order they need dependent on their expertise.

I was migrating from Apache and found that section of the book to be very useful. I did not appreciate how Nginx could make enabling SSL certificates so much easier than Apache until I read 'Setting up an SSL Certificate' in Chapter 4 and 'Securing Communications with HTTPS' in Chapter 9.

The book is not only informative but readable which is unusual in a technical book. I hope the 4th edition explains the limitations of the windows version of Nginx now that it is available. Highly recommended!

Very disappointed with this book which I was led to believe was the Guitar Wiring Bible.

I reviewed this already but it disappeared... maybe because I canned it somewhat.

This has a lot of information but I had trouble finding any sound "secrets" !

Yet again another black and white book that should be in colour and have high quality diagrams and photos which it doesn't. An absolute sin for a tech book that uses colour references to describe how to do certain types of wiring. The diagrams are minuscule thus pretty useless. Photos are grungy.

I was very disappointed with this book which I was led to believe was the Guitar Wiring Bible. I bought it on the strength of raves by others which clearly indicated they know more than the author... or nothing at all!

HOWEVER, there is some very good content so I gave it 3 stars for that.

This could have been such a great book if the author and editor had put themselves in the user/readers shoes.

Good sound, from strings to amp

Good history books tell you not only what happened and when, but fundamentally why. And good science books tell you not only what happens, but more importantly, how.
Lemme's book is about history and science of electric guitars, and is one of the most abundant in `why's' and `how's' that we could find on this subject, yet.

Published in both German and English, it is plentiful of occasions to bring myths down. "Musicians tend not to think in technical terms but rather emotionally, and come up with poetic words for sounds, which cannot be upheld technically. An unbelievable cult has developed around pickups, inflamed by advertising managers and music magazines. This is for the most part hot air and is all about sales figures". The denounce is true, and not only for pickups, but for musical instruments in general. The good thing about that kind of comments is that they are supported by 287 pages of factual experience.

"Electric Guitar - Sound Secrets and Technology" is easy to read; the choice of words is austere and precise; you must only, here and there, find your way around the occasional sentence which structure reveals the German language of the original. The more of 200 graphics and pictures leave little space for doubts, though.
I have years under my belt in the professional guitar making business, but was greatly surprised of discovering a lot of contents that redefined my knowledge on many subjects, and that answered long held questions. I found many "blind" topics, too; those about things that I ignored that I ignored.

This book balances and integrates theoretical and practical topics, all accompanied with the corresponding references in the form of tables, wiring diagrams and charts. It deals with the complete chain of sound from the strings to the amp, taking a deep look into each link of that chain: the pickups, the body, the electronics, and even the cable, which has a fundamental role that players and luthiers alike many times overlook. Guitar synthesizers have a dedicated chapter, too.
The book ends up with a look into the passion of guitar collecting. This is a chapter in which the marketing resource of overusing the word "vintage" is demystified and replaced with clear tips to evaluate an instrument from an electrical, mechanical and ergonomic standpoint.

All in all: if you are new to electric guitars, start here. If you are familiar with them, use this book to reach the next level. Don't get scared by the somewhat pricey tag. Highly recommended.

Passed my VTNE, recognized some questions from this book on the test word for word.

Just took my VTNE and passed! There were several questions on the VTNE that I recognized from this book word for word. I usually hate this style of studying, it was monotonous and awful, but it did help. I also purchased 3 other study aid books for the VTNE, and they were okay, but I recommend this one over the others due to the questions were very similar.

Warning. No explinations for answers. Need to go online and if there is not code its impossible.

I rented this book sot the code was scratched off and used.
The issues is yes the answers are in the back of the book.
But unlike previous editions there is no explination of the answers. Just an answer key. So can't see why you were wrong in an answer.
Need to be able to get online and do that and without the code that is impossible.
A good but I wish there was a warning that there is only an answer key

Fairly Helpful Book

This book is different from what I expected and, if I had been a little bit more on the ball about understanding it's contents, I probably wouldn't have bought it. I was looking for a book on scalp acupuncture that involved stimulating the parts of the brain involved motor/sensory and other neurological centers. This is not that type of book. It doesn't necessarily take into account the various centers of the brain, instead it looks at the scalp as a microcosm of the body much like ear and hand acupuncture. From there Yamamoto designated points of the scalp much like you would find when identifying points on the ear.

If you are interested in learning this type of scalp acupuncture, then this is the book for you. The book is kind of confusing at first, but it has a dvd that helps clarify things up.

I like the book's format, organized and clear. I did not realize that this is a totally independent system of acupuncture, therefore it was enlightening in that way. The DVD is an asset, we done, clear and helpful. Whether I'll go ahead and stick all this new info in my head is another thing.
